Oceans of Words minus 1

June 11, 2017

Last night we had a trio of ladies who form 3/4's of the group, Oceans Of Words

The 3 ladies that joined us were Tracey Scott-Townsend, Louise Beech and Cassandra Park (the first 3 in the picture from the left). All 3 are very bubbly (possibly to do with the wine), lovely and very down to earth. It was a pleasure to spend the evening in their company

They each took turns in telling us about their many works (8 published books between them and more coming up) and how they came to write.

They have known each other for a few years and early last year formed the group Oceans of Words

Now the books.....

Tracey has had 4 books published and the one she told us most about was 'The Eliza Doll'.

Ellie lives in a camper van with her dog, Jack, selling her handmade dolls at craft fairs. There is one doll that she can't bear to finish until she comes to terms with the truth of what has happened.

Uncompromising family drama involving communes, twisted family relationships, childbirth and breastfeeding while living on the dole in 1980's England.

Set in East Yorkshire and Iceland from the eighties to the present.

Louise Beech has written 2 books thus far: How to be Brave and The Mountain In My Shoe.

On the night Bernadette finally has the courage to tell her domineering husband that she's leaving, he doesn't come home. Neither does Conor, the little boy she's befriended for the past five years. Also missing is his life book, the only thing that holds the answers. With the help of Conor's foster mum, Bernadette must face her own past, her husband's secrets and a future she never dared imagine in order to find them all.

And last but certainly not least Cassandra Parkin who has written The Beach Hut and Lily's House

When Jen goes to her grandmother's house for the last time, she's determined not to dwell on the past. As a child, Jen adored Lily and suspected she might be a witch; but the spell was broken long ago, and now her death means there won't be any reconciliation.

Lily's gone, but the enchantments she wove and the secrets she kept still remain. In Lily's house, Jen and her daughter Marianne reluctantly confront the secrets of the past and present - and discover how dangerous we become when we're trying to protect the ones we love.
